As promised...to myself....here is my first contribution to the "ring a week" group on flicker ( http://www.flickr.com/groups/ringaweek/pool/with/5330242884/ ).
I really enjoy piercing.
The fine sanding needed to clean it up afterward...
not so much.
My goal in making this ring was to saw out the design and then not do any finishing touch-up sanding to the letters and number.
I did sand/finish the shank and originally created a mirror high polish on the outside of the ring. However, after it looked all shiny, it was kind of difficult to read what it said. So, since I was no longer in the studio, but getting ready to take this picture in my home, I whipped out one of my white sanding blocks that you get when you purchase a fake nail kit and...voila!!!
Instant brushed matte finish!
Much easier to photograph and now legible as well!
Woo Hoo!!
I found you! awesome. cool ring. nice and clean, AND fun, like all your work.
ReplyDeletea fake nail kit, huh.
I love this ring!
ReplyDeleteGorgeous. I also polish to tripoli at least for matte finishes first then take them to matte, I think it gives a better finish overall when done.
ReplyDeleteI like that ring. It's so much fun. That's a good tip about the nail buffer thing.
ReplyDeleteGreat job! Its a really clean look!
ReplyDeleteNice! good luck with the ring a week! don't think i could do it!
ReplyDeleteThat looks great! Nice piercing work. I agree about the filing/finishing part, though. Not fun.
ReplyDeleteSo, can you get those nail kits at Rio?
;)
Brilliant! Love the ring! I am terrible with a saw and always need to use files to shape things after I have hacked at them....I definitely need to practise! X
ReplyDeleteIt turned out beautiful and is a pleasure to see in RAW!
